Gifts of Change

Hello there,

It seems like what used to be my regular monthly posting is now occurring every 4 or 5 or 6 months.  I guess, at 86, I am slowing down.  I’d love to hear from any readers who are still around and choose to say “hello”.

My energies are drifting to more naps, and, I just let go of facilitating our local writing group after 6 years of weekly meetings.  The goal of the individuals in this group was primarily to capture their own life stories to share with their children and grandchildren.  Our week after week of discipline allowed them to do just that.  We became a close knit group enjoying each other’s stories, which also served to remind each of us for our own 50 – 80 year history.  However it has become time for several to move on to more convenient lodgings.  Since new leadership is available here at Providence Place, the Writing Circle will morph as it should, for different folks with similar desires and different needs.

For me, it was an ongoing back pain that erupted in May and sent me to the emergency room 4 times, finally transferring me to a rehab facility for two weeks.  Mary’s Meadow, was a walk away from Providence Place and run by the Sisters.  With a stellar  reputation as one of the most innovative rehab sites in the USA.   I had a great rest.

The experience of being temporarily incapacitated was new to me, as were the ambulances, the emergency rooms, and the rehab center.  Fortunately my health care proxy jumped in to help me out. What I learned will help me avoid this in the future.

Now able and eager to move forward (and with a new comfy electric hospital bed), I am reviewing hundreds of blogs which capture my own later life journey as I continue to Encounter Age…Without a Map!
